Rung to honour the poet, Wilfred Owen M.C.,
on the centenary of his death in action
in France, during the battle to cross the
Sambre-Oise canal at Ors. Owen and his family
lived in Shrewsbury from 1907,
where he completed his secondary education at the town’s
Technical Institute
and took his first employment as a pupil teacher in a town centre
school.
